Project Description
This project consisted of Selective and total structural demolition around active state offices of 20 buildings, in two phases, across a 350,000 square foot site. The work was carried out without loss of power to neighboring buildings and with stringent dust-control measures implemented to minimize disruption. A significant challenge was the removal of the performing arts center, including foundations, within three months of the start date. The 50,000 square foot auditorium adjoined two historic buildings slated to remain. The community’s resources, including labor and trucking companies, were involved at every opportunity, while the project was managed from Jackson’s New York office.More than 22,000 tons of debris was redirected from landfill during the project, equivalent to over 90% of all the demolished material. WPTZ News described the project as: ‘The ultimate in recycling, an example of embracing green building practices.’
